The singer revealed that she has a number of songs ready for the collection, which will serve as the follow-up to 2009's Battlefield.
"I'm putting out a new album," Sparks told PrideSource. "I'm working on it now. I've got about seven songs that I'm really feeling strongly about."
The star explained that her time working on upcoming movie Sparkle directly influenced the sound of her new material.
"Sparkle is actually giving me the opportunity to do something stylistically different than I did before, so it's going to be a little more R&B.
"Early Mariah, early Whitney is what I'm going for. That's what I grew up on. So I'm excited to do that."
Sparkle, which also stars the late Whitney Houston, will be in cinemas from August 17 in the US and October 5 in the UK.
