Metallica, Iron Maiden for Deep Purple tribute album

Metallica and Iron Maiden will feature on an upcoming Deep Purple tribute album.

Re-Machined: A Tribute to Machine Head will contain a host of acts covering tracks from the rock band's classic 1972 album Machine Head.

The Flaming Lips, Carlos Santana and Chickenfoot will also appear on the album.

Other musicians on the LP include Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith, ex-Guns N' Roses members Matt Sorum and Duff MacKagan, and Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and Steve Vai.

The album has been devised as a tribute to Deep Purple's Jon Lord, who died aged 71 from pancreatic cancer last month.
