Blur's Alex James: 'If Hyde Park is s**t, then that's definitely it'

Blur's Alex James has spoken ahead of the band's Hyde Park gig tonight (August 12)

The band will perform at the London venue along with New Order and The Specials to mark the end of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

James explained that the band will never perform together again if the concert does not go down well.

"I really don't know what happens next, that's the only honest answer I can give," he told NME.

"It's precarious though. If Hyde Park is s**t, then that's definitely it."

The bassist said that he was "grateful" for the Hyde Park gig this evening, as he had believed the band's previous headlining shows there in 2009 were their "last cup final".

James added that the group's new songs 'Under the Westway' and 'The Puritan' made their comeback show more worthwhile.

"I think the fact that we've got a couple of new songs, and we were getting on great, it just felt, 'What the hell, let's do another one'."

Alex James recently revealed that Blur had written new material, but may never get round to recording it.
