The track, which the singer unveiled yesterday (August 13), has vaulted into pole position on the iTunes tally.
She tweeted: "THE FACT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?!?!?!" along with a screengrab of the song's position on the chart.
Paramore's Hayley Williams later tweeted in support of the track, adding: "Song has been stuck in my head for months now. PROUD!"
Swift admitted when debuting the single during a Google+ Hangout chat with fans that it is about "my lovely ex-boyfriend".
'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' is co-written and produced by Max Martin and Shellback, who have previously worked with Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Robyn and Pink.
The 22-year-old's new album Red follows in October and includes a duet with singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
