The 'Girl Gone Wild' singer was to perform her first Australian concerts in decades in 2013, but axed the shows in July for unspecified reasons.
Madonna has explained in an audio message from her official website that she cancelled the shows because she would not be able to bring her older children along with her.
"I am really and truly sorry to have disappointed you and that's something that I don't feel very good about… My children are my first priority," Madonna explained.
The star went on to promise that she will eventually come to Australia to give her fans the shows they deserve.
"I don't take your love and your support for me for granted," she stressed.
"Please forgive me and know that when I do come to Australia, I will have made the wait worth your while and I will put on the greatest show on Earth. I haven't forgotten about you."
Madonna is currently in the midst of the North American leg of her 'MDNA Tour'. She is to perform in Philadelphia tonight (August 28) and in Montreal on Thursday (August 30).
