Huw Stephens: 'Bring back Top of the Pops'

By
Huw Stephens has revealed that he supports the campaign to bring back Top of the Pops.

Several artists have called for a return of the BBC chart-based live music show, with Blur's Damon Albarn recently admitting that he "never understood" the decision to take the show off air in 2006.

"I think we should bring back Top of the Pops," Radio 1 DJ Stephens told Digital Spy.

"We'll never get to see Wiley doing 'Heatwave' live on telly probably, and if Top of the Pops was there we would.

"I'm definitely behind the bring back Top of the Pops campaign."

BBC Three controller Zai Bennett last week dismissed reports that the channel could revive the show.

"Our audience don't consume music like that any more," he claimed at this year's Edinburgh International Television Festival. "Music [on television] gets niche very quickly."

Stephens is currently supporting the O2 Think Big Build-a-Band project, which is open to any vocalist or instrumentalist, DJ or MC between the ages of 16-25.

To be in with a chance of becoming part of the grassroots Think Big band, Stephens is asking young people to send an audition video via the O2 Think Big website by September 13.
