The Wanted's Max George gets caked at pre-MTV VMAs bash - pictures

The Wanted celebrated Max George's 22nd birthday by pushing a cake into his face on stage at the MTV pre-VMAs concert in Los Angeles.



The boyband splatted the newly-single singer towards the end of their set ahead of tonight's Video Music Awards, where Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Green Day are all set to perform at Los Angeles's Staples Centre.



One Direction's Louis Tomlinson was given similar surprise treatment during his 18th birthday last year while the band were performing at G-A-Y.



Other stars performing at the concert included US band Walk the Moon and Katy Perry's on-and-off boyfriend John Mayer.
