Rebecca Ferguson has been sued by her former managers for breach of contract.

Modest Management has accused the Heaven star of unlawfully ending her deal with the company, and is now seeking a ruling on the subject along with 20% of her future earnings and damages, reports BBC News.

The former X Factor contestant split with Modest in June, and later branded them "vile" and "greedy vermin".

Modest has claimed that Ferguson signed a five-year management contract in 2010 but sought to terminate it earlier this year, citing an email sent by the popstar as proof.

"I am really unhappy with how I have been treated by you over the last couple of months and how miserable I have become," the email read.

"The deterioration of my health has not been relevent (sic) to you until this week when it reached another low point.

"I have lost all faith and trust in you as managers so I have no option but to terminate our working relationship with immediate effect."

Modest's lawyers are said to have replied to accept her "renunciation and repudiation of the management agreement".

Ferguson reportedly wrote back declaring that she "did not accept" this interpretation.

The 26-year-old released a statement on Twitter today in which she explained that she was "not well" for a long time but insisted that now she has "never felt better".
