Ware told Digital Spy: "I'm so, so happy. I can't believe it!

"I don't know how it works and I don't care. To be recognised is incredible. I get a trophy at the end of it anyway so I'm happy either way!"

Asked who she thinks should bag the prize, she revealed: "I think The Maccabees should get it this year. I think Orlando [Weeks] is an incredible songwriter and the band create these beautiful moments and you really hear a journey in the album. It's a delightful piece of music."

She continued: "The Invisible could have been on the list as well - [Their album] Rispah is a masterpiece.

"It also would have been great to see Kate Bush on there as well... just to get a glimpse of her!"

It was recently reported that Plan B and Richard Hawley are the bookies' favourites to win this year's Mercury.
