The musician ended his show at Radio City, New York after just an hour last night (September 29).
White was performing the first of two nights at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall, when he suddenly walked off stage an hour before his gigs normally came to an end on his solo tour.
The venue is said to have turned "ugly" when fans realised that White was not coming back before an encore set, reports Buzzfeed.
Fans on Twitter let their anger known, with one stating: "Jack White is lame. Ended radio city show less than 1 hour. No explanation. I am pissed!!!"
Another added: "I've been waiting for an encore for longer than Jack White's set. Several hundred people keep talking about him coming out for a diehard set."
White is said to have been upset with the venue's sound quality, with New York Observer reporter Hunter Walker tweeting: "Mystery solved. Security guy @ Radio City said Jack White 'wasn't happy with the sound, I don't know why he pulled that'."
Jack White will continue his European tour of his Blunderbuss album in the UK and Ireland in October and November.
