Gotye 'doesn't care about becoming a one-hit wonder'

By
Gotye has spoken out about people thinking he's a one-hit wonder.

The musician's international hit single 'Somebody That I Used to Know' reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the Australian ARIA Singles Chart and the UK Top 40, and was nominated for 'Most Share-Worthy Video' at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. It has topped the charts in 26 countries to date.

Gotye told NME: "If I was to become a one-hit-wonder, I'd be in some good company."

'Somebody That I Used to Know', which features New Zealand artist Kimbra, is the second single from Gotye's third album Making Mirrors.

Gotye also said that his real fans would have listened to all his work, adding: "I would take a sort of perverse pleasure if a certain part of the public think of me as a one-hit-wonder."

"If I go on to never make any music that is as commercially successful as this - and that means that there's a divide between some people's perception of me in the pop sphere versus me and the actual music that I've made, and people actually taking the time to listen to the rest of it - then I think that's actually kind of interesting."

In August, Gotye released new a remix of 'Somebody That I Used to Know', which consisted of cover versions taken from YouTube.

"I couldn't resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered," Gotye said about the remix.
