Lawson have revealed the meaning behind their name.

The band explained that they are named after frontman Andy Brown's doctor, who helped him recover from a brain tumour which nearly took his life aged 19.

"It hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a really hard time for me and my family," Brown admitted in Lawson's new VEVO Lift series.

Drummer Adam Pitts added: "It's an amazing story to survive something like that. You can tell that he thinks about life in a different way now and makes the most of every moment."

Brown - whose surgeon was called Dr Lawson - continued: "It just makes you realise how lucky you are, to be honest."

Bassist Ryan Fletcher concluded: "We had to be called Lawson to tie it in with that story."

Lawson will release their new single 'Standing in the Dark' on October 14, while debut album Chapman Square follows on October 22.
