"I don't always get my first choice when I choose a singer for a track but somehow it always works out," DJ Fresh - real name Dan Stein - told the Daily Star.
"I got movie star Juliette Lewis to sing 'Fire Over Water' but she wasn't my first choice. I had Friendly Fires in mind but we couldn't get it together."
He added: "And when I did 'Skyhighartist' with the Rizzle Kicks I turned up with a melody and we wrote the words.
"Then I got them to really shout the track. I think it works because I don't write songs aimed at specific artists. I write with inspiration."
DJ Fresh recently revealed that he is interested in working with Girls Aloud for their comeback record.
