Cavern Club celebrates 50th anniversary

The Cavern Club - which launched The Beatles' career - is to mark its 50th anniversary with a live music extravaganza.
The Liverpool venue, which hosted hundreds of gigs by the 1960s heroes, was destroyed in 1973 but rebuilt 10 years later with recovered bricks and on the same site.
It was originally opened in 1957 and bosses are now planning an invite-only back to celebrate its rich musical heritage.
Cavern spokesman Dave Jones announced: "The Merseysippi jazz band, who played the first night of the club in 1957, are kicking off the gig and then we have around 30 bands performing.
"We also have more contemporary bands to reflect the history of the club over the years. It is a celebration of the club as a live music venue from the 1950s through to today."
A piece of "public art" at the site of the original club's doorway is also to be revealed to mark the anniversary.
