The singer insisted that she doesn't like to label her style or music preferences.
"Hipster? I despise that word!" she told The Guardian.
"Come on, it's just a lazy way to describe someone who doesn't define themselves in a narrow way, culturally speaking."
The 26-year-old, who recently released her latest song 'Losing You', is gearing up to put out a seven-track EP titled 'True' later this month.
Discussing the project, which was co-produced by Dev Hynes, she revealed: "I walked in and Dev was standing there, playing this beat, and it was like a lightbulb went off. I thought, 'That's the sound I've been waiting for.' I said to my boyfriend, 'I've found the person I want to make my album with'.
"Dev had just broken up with his girlfriend, so we closed ourselves away in this house in Santa Barbara and wrote the story of the end of his relationship."
Solange releases 'True' worldwide on November 27.
