Stones songs elected for preservation

Published Friday, Mar 9 2007, 09:02 GMT | By Matthew Houghton
The Rolling Stones and The Velvet Underground are amongst those acts whose songs have been nominated for preservation by the American Library of Congress.

Both will have albums immortalised in the National Recordings Registry, which aims to preserve recordings for generations to follow.

The Stones' album Satisfaction and the Velvet Underground's Velvet Underground & Nico were among the 25 recordings chosen by a panel of experts to be included.

Also selected was a speech made by President Roosevelt in 1941, declaring war against Japan.

To be eligible for inclusion recordings must be at least ten years old and deemed to have had a significant cultural impact.
