The Daily Star reports that Obama and his wife Michelle have invited the band as a thank you to Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, for their help with the campaign.

A source close to One Direction claims that Michelle Obama has been in touch personally to ask for their appearance, and revealed: "It's an open invitation for a date to be arranged that fits in with everyone's busy schedules.

"It's not every parent who can invite the hottest band in the world to their home. They will be the envy of girls across the world."

Michelle reportedly asked the band to visit the White House for their annual Easter egg hunt in April, after meeting the band at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

Band member Harry Styles reportedly described the 48-year-old as "a very attractive older woman".
