Dave Matthews Band giving $1 million to Hurricane Sandy relief

The Dave Matthews Band are pledging $1 million (£630,716) to Hurricane Sandy relief charities.

Matthews and his bandmates have announced that their November 30 concert at the IZOD Centre in East Rutherford, NJ will now become a fundraiser.

Proceeds from all ticket sales and merchandise will be given to the Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund, which is providing food, supplies and other assistance to the hardest hit communities in New Jersey.

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff is to perform with the Dave Matthews Band at the New Jersey gig.

Tickets can still be purchased through Ticketmaster.

Various celebrities are planning benefits in the next several weeks to help aid recovery from the storm, which killed more than 100 people and damaged infrastructure across the East Coast of the US.

Jerry Seinfeld and Louis CK will both be headlining stand-up comedy benefits in New York City to raise money for local charities. Gwyneth Paltrow is auctioning a dinner with herself and chef Mario Batali in association with Fashion for Sandy Relief.

The View panelist Sherri Shepherd and Susan Sarandon also appeared at fundraisers last week.
