People, Hell and Angels will feature 12 new tracks and be available from March 5, 2013, the late guitarist's official website confirmed this week.
"People, Hell and Angels follows Hendrix in 1968 and 1969 as he works on material apart from the Jimi Hendrix Experience and suggests new, experimental directions," the site explained.
"Hendrix toys with horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar, exploring fresh diversions from his legendary guitar work."
Hendrix was considering this shift in sound for a planned double-album First Rays of the New Rising Sun, Rolling Stone reports.
The record was the mooted follow-up to Hendrix's third and last studio album Electric Ladyland.
Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side is currently in production and features Outkast's Andre 3000 in the lead role.
No Hendrix originals will feature in the film's soundtrack, as the late musician's estate have refused permission, so Andre 3000 will instead perform songs that Hendrix covered during the era.
