Exclusive: McFly: 'Busted comparisons were annoying on debut album'

By
McFly have revealed that they were annoyed by comparisons to Busted during their debut album.

The group, who were signed to the same record label and initially supported the trio on tour, insisted the group were "vital" to their success but found the comparison frustrating during their first LP Room on the Third Floor.

"What got annoying was the jokes in the street, which we will get even today," Tom Fletcher told Digital Spy.

"We were on the same record label, we had the same management and they were the reason that we were able to break through. We even toured with them and James [Bourne] co-wrote most of our album."

He added: "It was an amazing time and they were vital to our success."

Asked if they are still proud of the record, which topped the charts in 2004, Fletcher admitted: "I have really fond memories of that album. Everything was exciting and new - we didn't know what we doing. It was all a bit of a whirlwind!"

McFly's greatest hits album Memory Lane is out now.
