The singer's debut set Our Version of Events has sold 928,000 copies since its release in February 2012 to reach the summit.
It is closely followed by 2011's best-selling album - Adele's 21 - at two, Lana Del Rey's Born to Die at three and Ed Sheeran's + at four.
"Every year, the run-up to Christmas sees a massive surge in CD sales and, increasingly over recent years, digital downloads on Christmas Day and Boxing Day," reports the Official Charts Company.
"And, as Michael Buble demonstrated this time last year with his Christmas album - which sold 1.2 million copies in the final quarter of 2011 - it is still possible for latecomers such as Olly Murs's Right Place Right Time, Girls Aloud's Ten, Jay-Z and Kanye West's The Throne 2, Tulisa's The Female Boss and Bruno Mars's Unorthodox Jukebox to make a huge impact on the year-end charts."
The final tally for the best-selling albums of 2012 is expected to be released in early 2013.
The official Top 10 biggest-selling albums in the UK of 2012 so far are as follows:
