The Flaming Lips are to make a Broadway musical from their album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
According to Gigwise, they have teamed up with the creator of The West Wing and award-winning director Des Mc Anuff for the project.
Lead singer Wayne Coyne spoke about the play and the director's attachment to the album: "When Des heard the record he heard a lot about death and loss and the triumph of your own optimism...he had an emotional attachment to it.
"I tell people all the time, it's not really a story. It's more like a mood. There's a Japanese girl; she fights some robots; that's five minutes.
"After that I don't know."
