The group discussed the first four tracks on the LP, which has been re-released with three new songs and a DVD.
Watch Pat Monahan Jimmy Stafford talk about 'This'll Be My Year', 'Drive By', 'Feels Good At First' and 'Bruises' from California 37 below:
Discussing the record's trailer single and global smash 'Drive By', Monahan admitted that it is "an indirect song about meeting [his] wife", adding: "I really did not expect I was going to fall in love with her that day.
"I said I'm never going to move to Washington where you live and I'm never going to have kids or get married, just so you know.
"So we've been married five years, we live in Washington and we have two children and that whole threat worked out great."
Stafford also revealed: "That was the first song we recorded in the studio because we'd be on tour... for over two years and we kind of all wanted a break.
"Pat had been writing songs on the road quite a bit and made the mistake of playing them 'Drive By'. They asked us to record the song first so they could get it out to radio."
California 37 marks Train's sixth studio album and entered the UK charts at number seven in April this year.
The deluxe edition, which includes a DVD of live performances and behind the scenes footage, is out now. Click here to buy the album, or find out more from their official website SaveMeSanFrancisco.com.
