The singer is developing the rags-to-riches tale around 'Life Thru A Lens', a hidden track on his first solo album, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The show, apparently being written at Williams's Los Angeles home, has been provisionally titled Hello Sir. The paper says the star's friend Jonathan Wilkes is due to play him.
"This will be a lavish musical - like Billy Elliot meets Mama Mia, all about Robbie's rise to fame," said a source. "But it also touches on the the loneliness and sadness."
A musical about his former band Take That, titled Never Forget, is due to launch soon.
