Glastonbury wins a four-year licence

Glastonbury Festival has been given a licence to operate for four years.
The licence, agreed by Mendip District Council after a day-long hearing, also allows an increase in capacity from 150,000 to 177,500 on an extended site.
Previously the organisers have had to secure a new licence, often against local resistance, each year.
“We’re not asking for the earth," commented festival boss Michael Eavis. "We don’t want to go through this escapade, jumping through hoops every year like we’ve done for the last 37 years.
"The new licensing laws are different. You can get a licence that lasts for years and years, but we’re only asking for four years.”
Charles Uzzell, a council officer for planning and environment, said: “The whole process has gone extremely well this year thanks to excellent partnership working. It has involved a lot of hard work from the applicant, the council and the responsible authorities, and the local community."
Meanwhile, Eavis also confirmed veteran singer Dame Shirley Bassey would play this year's festival and that Damien Rice and The Waterboys would headline the Acoustic Stage.
He has said there is one big act which will not be named until after tickets go on sale on April 1.
