The X Factor USA judge has teamed up with writer Elijah Blake for the follow-up to 2011's Femme Fatale.
Speaking to ThatGrapeJuice, the Grammy-nominated writer said: "I think her fans will be surprised by it.
"I would say it's definitely the 'unexpected' Britney in so many ways, in that she's playing with new textures and stomping on new grounds and genres."
@zankou_212 I've definitely had the pleasure of starting on something I think is going to be big with her— Elijah Blake (@SirElijahBlake) December 12, 2012
Blake's writing credits include Rihanna's 'No Love Allowed' and Usher's 'Climax', which went on to become a number one hit.
Though no further information on Spears's eighth studio album has been released, she was previously spotted in a recording studio with Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins, and Blackout producer Danja confirmed he was working with Spears again.
Spears later went on to tease fans, by tweeting "Blackout 2.0?" in response to fans trending the anniversary of the album on Twitter.
The X Factor USA judge is currently enjoying chart success with will.i.am's single 'Scream and Shout', on which she features, and is on course to enter the UK chart at number two according to the midweeks.
