Jones had initially remained silent following Shankar's passing, but released a statement late Wednesday (December 12) which praised the late musician's talent.

"My dad's music touched millions of people. He will be greatly missed by me and music lovers everywhere," she said.

Shankar and Jones had a complicated relationship and went through periods of estrangement, but they reportedly grew closer in more recent years.

The musician also formed a close bond with ex-Beatle George Harrison, with whom he worked on and off for many years. Shankar famously appeared at Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, followed by a joint tour a few years later.

He also worked with music luminaries including Philip Glass and André Previn.
