Shankar, the sitar legend and father of singer Norah Jones, passed away earlier this week at the age of 92.
The Times of India reports that Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose discussed Shankar during the band's Delhi concert, and at one point told the 5,000-strong crowd: "We dedicate this show to Pandit Ravi Shankar."
The band arrived uncharacteristically on time for the show, and played a three-hour set for an enthusiastic audience.
The gig was the first hard rock performance in Delhi for a number of years after Metallica's gig was cancelled last year. The band also recently played gigs in Bangalore and Mumbai.
Tributes have poured in from all over the world for Shankar after his death, including from his family and a number of Bollywood stars from his native India.
