Psy 'ending' Gangnam Style on NYE after song became 'too popular'

By
Psy has claimed that he may be 'ending' 'Gangnam Style' tonight (December 31).

The South Korean sensation, real name Park Jae-sang, spoke to MTV about why he might decide to bring his worldwide hit to an end during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, at which he is due to perform.

Psy, who turns 35 today, said: "Being in Times Square on New Year's Eve is already special - it's the biggest stage in the universe - plus it's my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of 'Gangnam Style'.

"I mean, what better way to do it? It's my biggest and most meaningful birthday."

Psy added that he believed the song, which has now become the most-watched video of all time since reaching over 1 billion views on YouTube this month, has become "too popular".

Psy with world record

He also spoke about wanting to prove he is more than a one-hit wonder.

Psy said: "I'm really working hard on a new single right now, and I'm not saying ['Gangnam'] is ending on Dick Clark - I still have a lot of invitations to perform it.

"I'll be in Paris, and in February I got invited to perform in China, and I've still got to do promo. So let me say that in America I need a new single because 'Gangnam Style' got too popular, so I've got to write a new single."

'Gangnam Style' was voted Digital Spy readers' best single of 2012.
