James Arthur, Calvin Harris lead first midweek chart of 2013

James Arthur is on course to top the first UK singles chart of 2013.

The X Factor champion's winner's single 'Impossible' currently leads the mid-stage tally, while will.i.am and Britney Spears are just over 3,000 copies behind with 'Scream & Shout' at two.

Psy's 'Gangnam Style' is at three, Bruno Mars is at four with 'Locked Out Of Heaven' and Olly Murs completes the Top 5 with 'Troublemaker'.

Taylor Swift is at six with 'I Knew You Were Trouble', while Calvin Harris and Tinie Tempah scale 22 places to number 21 with 'Drinking From The Bottle'.

Florence + the Machine climbs 27 places to 32 with 'Spectrum' and Ellie Goulding's 'Anything Could Happen' is at 38 after being used during the BBC's coverage of London's New Year's Eve celebrations.

Further down the chart, 2012's biggest-selling single 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye starts 2013 at number 40.

Over on the album chart Calvin Harris is on course to claim the first number one album of 2013 with his latest collection 18 Months.

The Scottish DJ is followed by Emeli Sandé's Our Version Of Events at two and Rita Ora's debut set ORA at three.

Ed Sheeran moves up to four with +, while Jake Bugg's self-titled debut completes the Top 5. Elsewhere, David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat vaults 26 places from 52 to 26.
