"I went through a massive phase of just listening to Drake's music," he told MTV News. "I was just a massive fan of his music, and the way he writes is just incredible.

"He makes such simple, relatable tracks that work so cleverly. It's so weird how he writes."

He added: "If I ever got the chance to work with him or got to meet him, I think it would be one of those moments where it's like, 'Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.' It would be crazy. I definitely look up to him as an artist."

Maynard releases his first album Contrast in the US today (January 8). Contrast features collaborations with Ne-Yo, Rita Ora and Pharrell.

The teenager has also stated that he doesn't want to emulate Justin Bieber with his music.

"I don't want to be the next anyone," Maynard explained. "I want to be the first Conor Maynard. I think I want to have a successful career that is unique in its own way."
