Moby cancels Barack Obama inauguration appearance

Moby cancelled an appearance at US President Barack Obama's second inauguration on Monday (January 21).

The DJ was scheduled to be in Washington DC to help celebrate Barack's second term with stars such as Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé and Alicia Keys, but had to back out.

"I was terribly sorry to miss the peace ball. unfortunately i had a serious personal issue that required me to rush home. i'm sorry," he wrote last night.

Moby chose not to elaborate further on the exact nature of his "personal issue", but did post a congratulatory message to Barack on his election win.

The US leader and his wife Michelle Obama attended the Commander-in-Chief's Ball with their children on Monday.

"I've got a date with me here. She inspires me every day. She makes me a better man and a better president," Barack told those in attendance at the ball.

Earlier in the day, the politician was sworn in for his second term in a ceremony that included Beyoncé singing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' and Kelly Clarkson performing 'My Country, 'Tis of Thee'.

Barack won re-election over Republican Mitt Romney in November.
