Beyoncé did lip-synch national anthem, claims inaugural official

By
Beyoncé did not sing her rendition of the US national anthem live at Barack Obama's second presidential inauguration ceremony, an official has claimed.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official alleged to CNN that the singer herself made the decision due to lack of rehearsal time.

"She did not sing live," the source said. "Because she didn't have time to rehearse with the Marine Band [on Sunday], she decided to use her recording [for the performance] with the Marine Band."

The official added that Beyoncé's pre-recording of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' "was spot-on" and insisted that it took nothing away from her abilities, adding: "She's actually a very good live singer."

The official also claimed that both Beyoncé and the US Marine Band had recorded their parts separately.

The US Marine Band confirmed earlier on Wednesday (January 23) that they used a pre-recorded track, but declined to comment on whether Beyoncé had.

A spokesperson for the band had been quoted as saying earlier in the week that they had performed live, but that they were given instructions that Beyoncé would be using the pre-recorded track.

The spokesperson had also explained that all music for the ceremony is pre-recorded as "standard procedure".
