'X Factor' star Janet Devlin begins recording debut album - video

By
Janet Devlin has revealed that she has begun recording her debut album.

The 18-year-old singer has uploaded a video to her official YouTube channel entitled 'Making of the Album - Day One'.

The clip opens with Devlin's track 'Wonderful' and features footage of the teen in the studio.

"For me, today is a big day. It's actually the first day of the official recording of my album," she announces.

Producer James Jayawardena can then be seen explaining that the team are currently trying to turn "what are essentially songwriting demos ... knocked together when writing" into a solid "sound" for the singer.

The video also features songwriter Eliot Kennedy, who to date has written three tracks with Devlin and has previously worked with artists including the Spice Girls, Bryan Adams and S Club 7.

The two-minute clip ends with a one-second "preview" of a previously unheard track.

Devlin - who finished fifth in the eighth series of The X Factor - revealed that she had reached her target number of album pre-orders on website PledgeMusic last month. To celebrate, she phoned a number of fans to thank them for their support.

The singer has also been keeping her followers updated on her progress via Twitter. After retweeting a number of photos taken by Kennedy and Jayawardena that document her studio time, she posted: "8 songs in 3 days ! Thanks @Steelworksmusic and to all the band ! :)" and linked to a live Ustream of a studio session on her official website.

In response to followers asking about her progress, the County Tyrone native said that she is planning to return to the studio after the production team had completed an initial week of editing.
