One Direction stars Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson have responded to repeated jibes from singer-songwriter Jake Bugg.

Bugg had argued in a recent interview that One Direction's after-show antics should not earn them the label "rock stars".

"Calling them the new rock stars is a ridiculous statement. And people should stop making it," Bugg had said of the former X Factor group.

"Really buggs me that artists we're fans of ,flip on us in the press !" Horan replied on Twitter.

Tomlinson added soon after: "Hi @JakeBugg do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie?"

The 'Lightning Bolt' star previously claimed that One Direction would be forgotten when their young female fans grow up.

In his latest interview, he added that the group must know they are terrible.
