By
McFly have confirmed plans to release a new album later this year and described the set as "very feel-good".

Dougie Poynter told Digital Spy that the follow-up to 2010's Above The Noise will continue with their trademark pop-rock sound.

"It's very, very us," Poynter said about the new material. "There's no-one really doing what we're doing right now, probably because it's not a very popular thing to do.

"No, we're very, very happy with [it]. It's all just very feel-good."

The star added that they decided to release a greatest hits collection in 2012 to give themselves more time to work on new material.

"We had a whole bunch of songs but it's always good to just take another year to keep writing so once you sieve through the songs all that's left are your best ones," he said. "You don't have any fillers or anything at all."

McFly are ambassadors for WWF's Earth Hour, which will see one hour of a darkness across the globe on Saturday, March 23 between 8.30pm and 9.30pm in support of energy that works with the power of nature.
