Chosen by a panel of music critics and industry experts, 12 albums have been confirmed for this year's shortlist.

Early favourite Bowie picks up a nod for his first album in ten years The Next Day, while London collective Rudimental have been nominated with their critically acclaimed album Home.
Dance duo Disclosure have been recognised for their debut LP Settle, and will face off against Arctic Monkeys' latest effort AM and Foals' Holy Fire.
Other nominees include Jake Bugg's self-titled debut, Immunity by Jon Hopkins and Laura Mvula's Sing To The Moon.
The shortlist is completed by Savages' Silence Yourself, Laura Marling's Once I Was An Eagle, James Blake's Overgrown and Awayland by Villagers.

The winner will be revealed at the Mercury Prize Awards Show at the Roundhouse on Wednesday, October 30.
Alt-J won last year's prize with their debut album An Awesome Wave
