One Direction 2014 tour projected to earn $1 billion

By
One Direction's 'Where We Are' stadium tour is expected to earn a billion dollars (£610 million) this coming year.

The boyband will break ticket sales records of U2 and The Rolling Stones if they achieve the projected sales.

One Direction promo shot 2013.

According to the Daily Star, the group have already booked 88 shows for 2014 in stadiums across Europe, the United States and South America.

A US spokesperson for the band said of their success: "Demand was so enormous for 'Where We Are' tickets that 21 American dates had to be added to the original schedule.

"It is absolutely conceivable that still more could be squeezed in before the end of 2014 but that will ultimately be up to the band and its management.

"Until now we hadn't even thought in terms of breaking records.

"But it would be amazing for 1D to climb to the very top of the tour league so early in the group's career. That would be a phenomenal testament to the loyalty and support of their fans."

Band members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlison, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik have enjoyed huge success with their latest album Midnight Memories.

They are currently competing with Robbie Williams for the UK's Christmas number one album.
