McBusted: 'We'd like Charlie Simpson to come back'

By
McFly and Busted have revealed that they would be happy to welcome back Charlie Simpson.

The two pop bands recently joined forces to create McBusted, but without Busted's Simpson, who has since forged a solo career following his time in the band Fightstar.

Appearing on ITV's The Jonathan Ross Show, Busted's James Bourne said: "I understand why he left. When people say he didn't have a great time, that's not true.

"He was in the band for two years and the first year he was in the band he had an amazing time, and I know that because I was there. But there came to a point where I felt he felt like he wasn't releasing the music that he was creating on his own.

"It was about him releasing the music he wanted to release. Some of my favourite songs that we released were written, he and I, but as a whole the singles we were releasing weren't his cup of tea."

However, the band said that they will not rule out the chances of Simpson returning, with Bourne adding: "I think McBusted works like this, but we all like Charlie, we don't have a problem with Charlie and I think we'd like him to come back. It's up to him."

McFly's Tom Fletcher also spoke about their hybrid name, explaining: "It is terrible. The best of a bad bunch. There weren't many options that we could go with." Matt Willis added that McBusted is "the worst band name ever".

On the chances of new material, Willis said: "We always said that we weren't going to say we were going to bring out music, because we didn't want to say that we were going to make music and it be terrible. But we went away, we did some writing and it wasn't terrible."

Fletcher added: "We've written a song called 'OMFG'."

Jack Whitehall, Bradley Walsh and Winter Olympic medallists Lizzy Yarnold and Jenny Jones will also speak to Jonathan Ross tomorrow night (February 22) at 9.50pm on ITV.

McBusted will embark on a headline tour of the UK this summer, as well as their gig at London's Hyde Park on July 6.
