Lily Allen: 'I only made £8,000 from John Lewis single'

Lily Allen has claimed that she only earned £8,000 for her John Lewis single.

The 'Hard Out Here' singer reached number one in the UK with her cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' last year.

However, speaking to BEAT, Allen stated that the single didn't earn her as much as people may think.

When asked how much one could expect to earn in the music industry in 2014, she replied: "Nothing. Everyone assumes I made millions from the John Lewis ad - I probably made £8k."

"Now I'm not earning much from the music," she continued, "I won't do as much promo for the record company. It's changed in that sense. I have to look at other ways.

"Back then it was about doing as much press as possible, but now one quote will spread everywhere."

She added: "So you don't want to do as much, because you saturate the media very quickly. Jonathan Ross, X Factor, so many opinions, it's too much. You want to hold it back."

Allen recently insisted that she is a feminist, following an interview in which she criticised the term.

She has also claimed that MTV wants to ban her new music video for 'Our Time' from being broadcast during the day.

Her third studio album Sheezus will follow in the UK on May 5 and a day later in the US. Watch the music video for 'Our Time' below:
