Academics to discuss 'Sgt Peppers'
Published Friday, Jun 1 2007, 09:37 BST | By Dave West
Academics will hold a symposium to discuss Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in its 40th anniversary year.
The experts will consider the topic of the landmark album's cultural impact at the University of Leeds on June 19.
Simon Warner, who is organising the event, called the album, released on June 1 1967, "a ground-breaking moment for popular music".
"It's the most important album by the most important group," he continued. "The whole album has so many colours and nuances - and that amazing multicoloured sleeve perfectly echoes what's going on inside."
Members of the public will also be welcome at the discussion of the record's resonance and why it is still relevant.
