Razorlight defend chart success
Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell has hit back at claims that the band's hit single 'America' was a shameless bid for chart success.

'America' became the band's first number one single in October, but drew criticism from music fans who felt that, in attempting to appeal to the mainstream audience, the band had lost its edge.

However, Borrell insisted that he is proud of the song, telling the NME: "Look, 'America' is a political song. There's no-one else who's sung a political song and had a worldwide number one with it. For me that song was like a f**king machine gun.

"With that song I did what I always wanted to do. What I was always trying to do was write a song that worked on an immediate level - that got everybody in the world listening instantly in three minutes, but that also worked on other levels, that actually meant something."
