Brazilian Live Earth show suspended
Published Thursday, Jul 5 2007, 11:26 BST | By Alex Fletcher
The Latin American leg of Live Earth has been suspended after safety concerns were made known by police.
Officers claim they do not have the man-power to ensure crowd safety at the gig scheduled for the Copacabana beach this weekend.
Brazilian promoters had hoped to attract up to one million visitors to the Rio gig, with acts including Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray and Pharrell Williams scheduled to play.
If the court injunction is not over-ruled, the Rio gig will become the second Live Earth concert to be scrapped following the cancellation of a show in Istanbul due to a lack of sponsorship and interest.
