Cameron renews violent lyrics plea
Published Friday, Jul 6 2007, 07:09 BST | By Dave West
David Cameron has renewed his calls for the music industry to ban violent lyrics.
The Tory leader said bosses should take the lead and impose self regulation to help fight a culture of youth violence in the UK.
He said the British Phonographic Industry umbrella group in particular had a role.
Cameron commented: "Is some music, are some lyrics, are some videos and are some artists, helping to create a culture in which an anti-learning culture, truancy, knives, violence, guns, misogyny are glorified? Yes.
"Can we see the effects of this on our young people, in our schools and on our streets? Yes. The simple truth is that music and musicians can influence young people much more than politicians can."
