Editors hit out at lazy critics
Published Tuesday, Jul 24 2007, 10:16 BST | By Alex Fletcher
Tom Smith, lead singer from Editors, has expressed his annoyance at music critics that labeled his band a second-rate Interpol.
The rock star conceded that there were vocal similarities between himself and the New York group's frontman Paul Banks, but explained that was where the similarities ended.
Smith said: "When people dismiss us as a second-rate whoever it p***es you off.
"Vocally there is a similarity with Interpol and that's fine but our first album The Black Room doesn't sound anything like them.
"What amazes me is we sill get that on this record, An End Has A Start, which sounds nothing like Interpol or Joy Division. If you're a musical journalist saying that then you're deaf and need a new job."
