Lee Hazelwood, the writer of 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin'', has died at the age of 77

The singer songwriter, who contributed to the Cowboy Psychdalia music scene of the late 1960s, passed away in his Las Vegas home on Saturday night, following a fight with renal cancer.

Hazelwood, who served with the US army in the Korean War, worked as a disc jockey before achieving fame as a performer and songwriter.

Although he is most famous for writing the hit Nancy Sinatra single 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin'', he also achieved cult status after acts such as Nick Cave, Primal Scream and Megadeath covered his work.

Hazelwood released his last album, Cake Or Death in 2006, and he is survived by his wife Jeane, son Mark and daughters Debbie and Samantha.
