The funeral of Manchester music legend Tony Wilson has been held in the city.

A service for friends and family of the presenter, producer and record label chief was held at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church as fans gathered outside.

Among those paying tribute to the the church to pay their final respects to the Factory Records founder were signings Shaun Ryder from the Happy Mondays, and Peter Hook of New Order and Joy Division.

Peter Saville, co-founder of the label, and Richard Madeley, who worked with him in television, gave readings during the mass.

Steve Coogan played Wilson in 24 Hour Party People and sent a message: "Tony was a true civic champion, who found excitement and creativity on his own doorstep."

He died earlier this month, aged 57, after battling kidney cancer.
