Charlatans' new album free to download
Published Monday, Oct 1 2007, 11:07 BST | By Alex Fletcher
The Charlatans' tenth album will be free for fans to download when it is released next year.
Fans will be able to acquire both the 'North Country Boy' rockers' new single and their full album from either radio station Xfm's website or the band's official website.
The LP, which is currently untitled, will be available in the new year, with lead single 'You Cross My Path' released on October 22.
Speaking about the decision to work without a record company, the band's manager Alan McGee said: "Why would you volunteer to join the army for ten years unless you had no choice? Record companies are kind of like the army - very regulated.
"We were really excited when Xfm got behind us and were as enthusiastic about the download as we are - they are the first people to embrace music for the people.
"The band will get paid by more people coming to gigs, buying merchandise, publishing and synch fees. I believe it’s the future business model!"
The Manchester rockers begin a short four-date UK tour at Glasgow ABC on Saturday, November 3.
