The South African musician died on Thursday night during what is believed to be an attempted carjacking.
Dube was dropping off his son and daughter in the Rosettenville area of the city when three shots were fired through the car window. The children were standing outside of the vehicle.
Police found Dube dead at the scene and have three suspects.
The reggae singer released his last single 'Respect' in April this year.
