Mark Ronson had "never heard" the Zutons' track 'Valerie' before Amy Winehouse suggested teaming up to cover the song.
The music producer was keen to continue collaborating with Winehouse after working on her 2006 album Back to Black, and asked her to name a hit that they could cover.
Ronson and Winehouse's adaptation of the track became the third single to be released from Mark's album Version this week.
"Amy and I had just finished recording her album Back to Black and I had nearly finished with my album," Mark told radio station Forth One. "I said to her 'listen, I really want to do a song. We have just kind of had this whole experience making your album, we should do something on my album'.
"I then asked her if she knew any rock songs from the past 10 years and she just gave me the blank look. And I was like 'come on, you have got to know something'. She only listens to music from the Fifties and Sixties, but she thought about it and said she liked the song 'Valerie' by The Zutons.
"So we decided to do that. But I'd never even heard it, so I had to have a good listen first. Then we came up with an arrangement and recorded it."
